Pure honey

How to know it’s pure

A lot of the “honey” sold in Kenya is mixed with sugar syrup or water. Ours is not. Here is what we promise, and how you can check for yourself.

  • Gently strained, never mixed

We strain out wax and bits of comb, nothing more, so the honey keeps its natural flavour.

  • No added sugar or water

What’s in the jar is what the bees made. No syrups, no thinning, no fillers.

  • Never mixed

Each honey comes from one region and one kind of flower. We don’t blend in cheaper honey.

Easy checks you can do at home

  1. 1

    The water test

Drop a spoonful of honey into a glass of water. Pure honey sinks and settles at the bottom. Fake honey starts to dissolve and cloud the water quickly.

  2. 2

    It may crystallise

Over weeks or months, pure honey can turn thick and grainy, especially when it’s cool. That’s natural. Stand the jar in warm water to make it runny again.

  3. 3

    The thumb test

Put a small drop on your thumb. Pure honey is thick and stays in place. If it runs off or spreads out quickly, it has probably been watered down.

These checks are a simple guide, not a lab test. That’s why every batch is also checked against national standards.

Certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards. Our honey meets the Kenyan standard for quality and purity.

Where our honey comes from

From the hives of Kenya’s honey country

We work directly with small-scale beekeepers in some of Kenya’s best honey regions. Many of them keep hives the way their families have for generations, out among the acacia and wild flowers.

We only harvest honey the bees can spare. Frames are taken when the comb is capped and ready, and enough is always left in the hive for the colony to stay strong. We pay our beekeepers fairly and on time, because good honey starts with healthy bees and people who care for them.
